Taking dogs to Australia from US

Im arranging to live in Australia for a year and I must take my 2 dogs. Does anyone know about if dogs must be quarantined before traveling to Australia from the US? What about back to the US from Australia? Thanks in advance.

I am going to Australia to live and am taking my little dog with me. the average quarantine time in australia is six months because of Rabies, but I do not know about coming back into the U.S.
