Bring a puppy from Italy to America

If someone could assist me. I am in Italy on Holiday and I got a puppy. Am I allowed to travel from Italy to America with him? What kinds of paper work will I need and will I have to him quarantined?

I am in the same situation as you, and will like to know the process one must go through to take their puppy to the U.S. I will be traveling in the month of August from Italy to New York. Thanks
