Hi Jeff,

As an Aussie who's been to all these places, and as a Victorian (I am not too biased!!) , I recommend the Great Ocean Road, I did it earlier this year before flying to London.

It is absolutely amazing. The Great Ocean Road finished about 4 hours from Melbourne, you drive along cliff faces with amazing water and mountain views on both sides and then its virtually highway for another 6 hours to Adelaide.

You would probably need a day and a half to stop and see all the things along the Great Ocean Road. Lochard Gorge is my particular favourite.
The twelve apostles are also pretty cool. YOu can also stay right near the beach, although its pretty cold and windy at this time of the year, it should be getting better at the end of August though.
If you decide to go to Alice Springs, be aware that Ulura (Ayres Rock is about 4-5 hours drive away and about a 1hour flight. It is amazing at Uluru, but Alice is nothing exciting!! Unless you like looking at Dusty dry hot towns!! Although I did have the best seafood there at the Alice Springs Casino (they fly it in fresh from Cairns!!!)

Sydney is awesome, I suggest the Bridge Climb at night.

Cairns doesnt have a beach!! Its mostly mudflats!! But 1 hour north is Port Douglas, which is absolutely beautiful on the edge of Rainforests and also has some cool beaches. If you get a chance in Cairns, go out to one of the islands as they are pretty amazing

Well as you may have guessed by my rather lengthy email, I could ramble on for hours, and I am not at all homesick!!!

Hope you have a wonderful time

Bronwyn
