I have a Rottweiler and need some advice on the best way to travel by car with her. She is so large that a dog crate will not fit in my vehicle, yet I feel that she is not safe riding loose. Also, on the hotels that accept pets, will they accept such a large dog? I have never traveled with her before, but then we have not gone on vacation since we've acquired her. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Lynn, I just found this site and your question so it is probably too late to help but.....we publish a magazine called Fido Friendly that lists hotels in the United States where you can stay with your dog while traveling. I will be happy to send you a complimentary issue if you wish. You can see us at: www.fidofriendly.com

In the meantime, as long as you are traveling with such a large dog it is probably wise to have a safety harness of some kind. There are many good harnesses out there. Always ask the hotels that do accept pets if there is any weight restrictions. Hope this helps and good luck!

Susan,
Thank you for the info and the website. We already had reservations for the summer for a townhouse that did not allow dogs, so she stayed with Grandma. But next summer I will definitely look up dog-friendly hotels/motels, and I will also look into one of those harnesses!! Again, thanks!!!
