Hi dog lovers, I would like to know if I can take my dog to Italy for a year. Is it very traumatic for a dog to fly overseas? Will I find a moderatly priced abode for the 2 of us?? Is it expensive to fly her? Could she get lost or hurt on the flight? I know there is no kennel hold upon arrival, and she's had her shots. I am staying with friends at first who have a big yard, and I'll live in a small coastal town. Please help me out with info or links. Thanks, Carey.

hi carey!
what a coincidence!
i'm also going to italy, also with a dog and also for a year!
anyway, i'll be going to milan-
i'll tell you my experience so far.
i have a ten month old pup, he's the size of a cat. so far he's lived in three countries.
born in spain
lived in holland for half a year
then in NYC for three months.
i just got back from NY and am now in holland.. this weekend i'll go to milan to find an apartment for a year that'll allow pets.
the travelling experience has never been a problem.
what size is your doggy??
since mine's the size of a cat i've always travelled with him in the cabin. he's never needed tranquilizers, in fact i heard they're not too good.
my pup also has a microchip- i got nervous about it but the vet said it was necesarry for travelling... so far... they've never scanned that chip! anyway, it's been easy as pie travelling with him.
i wish you luck and if you'd like, get in touch with me!
=)

Erin or Sphere...
If you are still out there. I would really like to hear your experience w/your dog in Italy. I have 2 basset hounds and I am planning to move to Italy for at least one year (if not permanently) What was your experience in trying to find an apartment that takes dogs?

Hi - have you found any good links about how dog-friendly italy is?? We are thinking about moving to Milan for a couple of years next fall and wonder if the country is as dog-friendly as france?
thanks
