Hi Tanya,

My husband and I are planning the same trip though South America with our 3 year old son (will be three in Ocotober 2002). We have the same questions. Although we plan on backpacking through most countries. We thought about buying a small car once there bought think it will be better to take trains or rent a car if needed. We will definitly be roughing it so,,,I am a little concerned for our son. My husband and I did some traveling though Africa and Europe alone, but never with our son. How long do you plan on going? We plan on spending a good three months or more. I figure, he is almost three, can walk, talk and is really showing his independence now, so it won't be like before always holding him, worrying about why he is crying or having difficulty figuring out what he wants. It will be an adventurous trip for him too. Taking a trip to South America can be a once in a life time thing, don't hold back just cause you have a child. If you and your husband can adapt your regular life with your sons easily then you should be able to do the same anywhere. Now if I could take my own advice!
Still thinking if that is what we will do.
I also use to live in Peru and Venezuela when I was young 2-6 years old. My father was stationed there with Ford, my mother is orginally from there. So we have one contact, a friend of mine who is 27. He came to visit us in Michigan when we lived there before our son was born, then he came to visit us in France, where we live now. We plan on moving back to the US in the next 6 months. But first an adventuous trip to S.A. then off to AMERICA where another part of our life will continue.

Let me know your thoughts,

Gisa

I have recently just returned from peru on the heights of machupichu tour with explore and it was excellent. There is an english bar called the cross keys, near the plaza de armas in cuzco which is frequented by back packers and travellers for an excellent Pizza go to chez maggies. Try the cerveza malta beer it is lovely, don,t do the Guinea pig it is awful, it tstes like an old car tyre!! When staying in aguies callantes which you will if you go to machupichu you must go to the hot spring baths and drink beer in the baths,if your guides take you to the same restaturants as us try the lomo de casa steak stuffed with bacon and cheese it is delicious, when you go to Lima although you must be very careful because of the muggings etc, we still went out in the evening and found the locals very friendly.

Hi John
You have returned from the Sacred Land of The Incas, and I am about to take the same tour (with the Amazon Extension) on 9th September. How was your trip? Please give me as much info as you can - would be greatly appreciated, as I am over 50 years old and worried that I might have bitten off more than I can chew!
What was the average cost of meals and the standards of accomodation?
Regards, Mary

Hi, do you want to express your opinion?

I am looking for people over the age of 50, who have used an Independent Tour Operator to book their holiday from the UK to complete a short questionnaire.
The questionnaire will take about 5 minutes to complete and concerns your motivation for using the tour operator.
You will be really helping me to successfully complete my dissertation, so, please follow the link!
