Royal Decameron Costa Blanca - Panama

Just returned from two weeks in paradise.
Flight's on Airtransat were ahead of schedule both
down & back also the service was great so no complaints
about Airtransat as I've heard from some others.
Royal Decameron has expanded since World of Vacations
brochure was published. There are now 600 rooms,
6 A la carte restaurants (Italian, Thia, Japanese,
Sea Food, Steak House & Mediterranean), 6 pools &
8 bars.

The weather was sunny and hot (30C+) everyday. The
restaurants do not require men to wear long pants at
night so don't even bother packing any.
The food was very good especially the Japanese, Thia
& Italian. You need to make your reservations early
the 8:30 seating fills up fast. The beach is wide and
great for long walks although the sand is very hot at
midday. The staff is very friendly and the resort is
very well maintained. Rooms are clean and the beds very
comfortable. It was 82 steps up to the level our room
was on and another 15 up to the second floor. They do
have a shuttle that will take you to the upper level
but we heard it could be a long wait for them to come
to pick you up.

We did two excursion Canopy Adventure ($49 US) which
is about 45 minutes from the resort. This is an
experience of a life time but not for those scared of
heights. We also went on the Embera Indigenous
Community ($68 US) tour although it is 2 ˝ hours from
the resort it also was worth the trip.

I would recommend this resort to anyone, great value
and for rest and relaxation it offers.

The excursions are planned by the resort. They aren't very expensive. They range from @$35.00 to $85.00 (USD). You can take the local bus into the town of Penomme yourself for $1.00. It's an interesting trip (about 35 minutes) and sometimes on the way back you drop people off at out of the way small villages. Penomme is like a street of dollar stores. Worth the trip.

Can anyone provide any information on this new resort? Is it close to the decameron property? Did anyone golf while at decameron?

Just came back from this wonderful and relaxing resort. The opening of the golf course is scheduled for Jan. 15th. I don't play the sport, but I've heard good things about it and that it was designed by American Golf Course Design & Construcion.

Just got back on October 15th, 2003. The casino is open and they said the first 9 holes of the golf course would be opening in November. Have a great time. I myself am trying to get back at the end of January or beginning of February. It is such a wonderful place to relax and have fun at the same time.

Hi,

Do you have any pics? I'm leaving with a group of 17 people on Dec. 29/03. Are there face cloths in the rooms? Do they have a Gala for New Years Eve?

The pictures you see on line in the ads are exactly the way it is. I too am leaving on Dec 29 for 2 weeks, maybe I'll see you there. There are no facecloths in the rooms so if you want one bring your own. Never been there for New Years was there for Christmas last year. We want to go out to see the locals New Years Eve they have a New Years custom of burning efigy's.

My husband and I are leaving Jan 19th 2004 for Royal Decameron for two weeks. I am very interested in experiencing snorkelling and scuba diving. It seems that most things I have read say that it's too rough and the water is to murky for this at the Royal Decameron. Is this true? And if so, are there tours arranged to go somewhere where we could do this?

Royal Decameron is on the Pacific coast of Panama which means the tide goes up and down several feet stirring up the sand, although the water is very clean and the temperature is ideal. I kept going to the ocean more than the pools. Try asking for tours to Portobello which is on the Atlantic coast of Panama. I've heard is a good diving and snorkling spot. If you go that way you might as well visit Ft. San Lorenzo and Colon Free Port and even the Locks of Pedro Miguel. You could do it all in one day if you start early, remember you are crossing to the other ocean. :)

Dear Anna: thank you for your input into my letter that I had posted. We have booked a snorkelling tour in the bay of portello while we are there. You said that you kept going to the ocean instead of the pools. I had read on the interenet that there were alot of jellyfish in the water there. Did you find this?
Thanks

I have a few questions. What are your room prices?
I believe your resort include all meals with your package. Am I correct? Are you a 5 star hotel? What about those nasty killer mosquitos I hear alot about in Panama? Will these insects be a problem? Thank you.

Me and my boyfriend went to Royal Decameron at the beginning of December. We had an amazing time, food was ok, drinks were great. The tours were fantastic and the nightclub was pretty fun. Definately a great place to go and relax and have some fun. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone who was looking to party every night. It's a bit expensive to go back and forth to PV by cab every night. They have some amazing tours and the service couldn't be better. 1 week was not long enough so next time we'll go for 2!!

1. Hotel is situated 90 minutes drive north of the canal which is on the northern outskirts of Panama City on the Pacific coast.
2. The cost by taxi is $100 US so it is best to go on one of the tours which take in the canal as part of the days activities such as the city tour.
I have been there twice having just returned last week so the information is current.

No problems with bugs as long as you stay out of long grass near Cows. Chiggers are the nasty result. Use DEET and put tape tight around your your pants if you have to venture in Cattle country.

Hello everyone,

Help wanted :-)) I am planning a trip to PANAMA next November. I was wondering if anybody knew the distance and travel time between the "Royal Decameron Costa Blanca" and Panama City. Easier by Bus, Taxi, car rental ? My girlfriend lives in Panama City and I really need a cheap way to get there. I though about buying the airfare only and then rent a cheap hotel Panama City....but still turns out to be more expensive then the Air-Hotel package.

Thank you soooooo much in advance !

Stephan:

The tip to Decameron from the city is about 1:45 hr.
The road is a two lane in each direction and the speed limit is 100 K.M.
Decameron is located at 130 K.M. marker from the city (cero marker)

For november reservation take in consideration that Panama celebrate independance day and other hollidays on the 3, 4, 10, 28 so make your reservations in advance.

Decamenron in an excellent resort, but keep in mind to ask for a building next to the beach (numbers 13, 14, 15, 31, 32, or you will end going up and dowmn the stairways.
November is the last of the rainning months in Panama.

There are many hotels in the city and prices go from $45.00 to 99.99 for a good and safa hotel.

The city has many things to ofer at lo prices. A meal for two at a 4 star restaurant will cost about $50.00

Hello Everyone

I would like to go back to this resort end of this month but world of vacations don't book there over the summer. Do you know of any other agents that offer packages there? I tried booking flight and hotel sep but too expensive.

Thanks

We just came back on Dec 27/02 and we had a 17 and 13 year old with us. They had no problem getting us drinks from the bar. The 17 year old got her own drinks

I just booked at the resort - I hope it's not filled with White Trash like you who are obsessed with making sure their minors have access to booze.

Hi Lisa: I just returned last night from a week at this resort. Each of the 6 bars has a sign posted that minors will not be served. Some bartenders comply and others ignore it. You can order the drinks yourself and pass them to anyone. There is a drink menu hanging above each bar. All the drinks are good with a large variety.

Couple of questions: is beach clean with minimal surf? Are there lots of stingrays? Is it safe to travel outside of resort?

Hi Doreen: I returned last night from a week at the Royal Decameron Panama. There are high tides that come in mid afternoon. The waves are very strong and there is a flag system warning you not to go in. The currents are strong. I didn't see one sting ray or jelly fish last week at all. At low tide, you see fish that have been left behind by the receding tide but the seagulls gobble them up. The beach is very clean but again, the tide brings many seashells and by mid day the sun heats the sand to the point where you must where shoes for comfort. The sun is very hot and it rained every afternoon around 3 pm for the remained of the day. It was needed to break the humidity. The water is not clear...too much silt being churned up by the waves so you cannot see the bottom but it is sandy. I'd advise beach shoes anyway. Absolutely no snorkeling here...a disappointment for us but the resort has 4 swimming pools. You can walk a long way along the beach. We felt totally safe everywhere we went, including catching local transportation into the nearest town for shopping. Everyone is super friendly and helpful.

I would like to know how far away is the nearest village or town and what entertainment is offered there. Does it have theatres, restaurants, discos for tourists? As I am studying Spanish, I would like to meet the local people.

Hi Paul. My daughter and I are leaving tomorrow as well for the Decameron. I've checked the weather info and its forecasting thundershowers for Tuesday and Wednesday. Its the beginning of the rainy season (mid April) so I guess we have to be prepared to spend some time at the bar when it pours. Temperatures are looking very high so I expect the humidity will be high too. Don't forget your mosquito repellent, lol. It will be a long sleepless night and a bit of a drive to reach Miribel for check-in before 4 a.m. , lol.
Cheers to a good holiday.

I think you will really enjoy the Royal DeCameron as well as the surrounding areas in Panama. My wife (who is Panamanian) and I just returned from a trip, and we stayed at the DeCameron as well as with her parents. You won't see beach vendors at the Decameron, but you are sure to just about anywhere else there. I feel very safe in Panama, even though I am as white as can be. The DeCameron is in an area called Farallon, right off the Panamerican Highway, so you can see lots of little towns. We have lots of pictures of the DeCameron and Panama if you would like, just e-mail me.

Greetings Chad,

I read your comments on the web and I am leaving with my mother and grandmother in march 2004 for the ROYAL DECAMERON BEACH RESORT,GOLF& CASINO...
I would love to see your pictures and find out more about the place! We are very new to this kind of magical experience and would appreciate any bits of advice you can share with us.
And do we absolutely need vaccination?

Thanks in advance! This is greatly appreciated!

Hi Isabelle,

I came back Dec. 8 after two weeks at the Royal Decameron and I was planning to go to Cayo Largo in Nov. 2004 but just changed my plans after those 2 weeks of fun and entertainment that is one of a kind from all my traveling.

Even if it rained 6 days out of 15, I can confirm that if you like to move around and be entertained, you will enjoy this site I can guarantee. The disco is amazing you will not hear any american music except during the shows with the Ballet & Pedro (a ball of energy and humor). They play all kind of music near the activities.

You have to be very fussy if you don't like the food, there are so many choices you won't regret this location.

Have a great time.
