Dear Leigh Anne
I have travelled with my family several times in the areas of Ecuador and Peru. Two of our children were born and raised in Peru. I am peruvian. Now in the US a division of our family owned corporation specializes in Adventure travel in Latin America.
Here are my first suggestions and I encourage you to call me 1 800 367 7378 at any time to further dicuss your travel program.
ECUADOR: [10days] Mainland to include the colonial city, and the Andes town of Otavalo. Optional in Ecuador a 4 day tour to the Ecuadorian Amazon Jungle. Tours to Galapagos are available for 4, 5 and 7 nights.
PERU: [20 days] Very good land transportation: From Lima to Nazca, fly over the Nazca Lines. Continue by land to Arequipa, visit the Colca Canyon - a MUST. By air to Cuzco. Allow at least 6 days in this area: nearby ruins at Sacsayhuaman, Pisac, Moray, Salineras..all different and fun. You can do some of these on horse! Then allow at least 2 nights for the Machu Picchu area. Finish at the Amazon Jungle in Madre de Dios, the state next to Cuzco [NE].
Best time to visit: April to Dec dry season. Rafting, Inca Trail [4-5 days] during these months only.
Kids will ENJOY tremendously. By changing the sceneries, giving them different experiences: go to Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail return by train or helicopter!
Please let me know how many people traveling together and how many rooms will you need. Type of hoteles to meet your travel style and percentage of meals you want to include [the fewer, the more flexibility you have]. This information needed for budgeting purposes.
I trust we can continue this communication and make sure you give your family a great educational experience: a gift they will bever forget.
Sincerely,

Luis
