We plan to leave June 6 for the Galapagos, which is already booked, and return to Quito on June 15. We then plan to spend from 3 to 4 weeks exploring Ecuador and Peru, being sure to trek into Manchu Pichhu. We have three boys, who will be, next summer, 9, 15 and 17 years old. We like active vacations such as bicycling and rafting. I have done extensive research on the area. What I'm looking for is personal reports from people who have taken their families there, hiked the Inca trail and perhaps travelled overland via Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. What are those 12 hour train rides really like? Also, I'd like to hear from people who have taken children to the rainforest. Was it interesting for them, or did the excitement pall fairly quickly when there were no animals to be seen? I'd appreciate any information.
