We are a family of four from Kansas (adults aged 36, kids 13 and 3). I (Mom) have only seen the ocean three times (near San Francisco, Florida Atlantic coast, and Virginia Beach) and loved it very much. The kids have never seen the ocean. Would like to take the family for a week's stay at a not-so-touristy beach destination. Would like to find a beach house, not a resort hotel. Not interested in theme parks or attractions - would prefer a more serene get-away to enjoy beachcombing and serious sand castle building. Have no idea where to go or what time of the year to go to particular places to make the most of our visit. We like to fish and swim. Can someone help point me in the direction of the perfect beach for our family?
