Family trip to Nova Scotia

I am planning a July trip to Nova Scotia with wife, 4 young kids, and parents (babysitters). I am seeking advice on best area to establish as a home base (prefer beaches, celtic culture, kids stuff), as well as somewhat nice kid-friendly accomodation (a pool/hot tub woudl be nice) that can accomodate a group of this size (3 rooms, possibly a connected suite).

Any advice greatly appreciated.

We plan to do an auto land trip to Nova Scotia, and would appreciate the info of the auto land route including the bridges and ferries along the way. We will be travelling from Long Island, N.Y., in July.
