View Full Version : Is Lion King on Broadway suitable for a five year old?

Everyone says "suitable for all ages," but really, has anyone seen this performance with young children and called it enjoyable? We don't go to Wiggles and Disney on Ice and all that other nonsense :), and I'm worried that my five year old will just get bored or fall asleep or not be able to understand the musical dialogue. Would she get the same (or more) enjoyment from a $10 movie?

Thanks for any guidance.

We took our kids when they were older (9 and 11) and they loved it. We have not gone to any of the Disney on ice shows, because my husband and I don't care for that type of thing. But the Lion King show is really sophisticated - the sets and costumes are breathtaking and are some of the most artistic and creative we had ever seen. My husband was extremely skeptical about going, but went and was reallly impressed, as was I.

There's something to be said for introducing a child to live theater -- the immediacy of it, the closeness of live actors, the thrill of a live orchestra, etc. So I would recommend it, even if she gets a little wiggly at some parts.

It's wonderful! And a five year old is plenty old enough. Have a wonderful trip - my two children adored it, and the entire performance gave me chills!

I forgot to post back here after our trip.

Well, my older kids were captivated, but as I guessed, my five year old was out cold before the intermission. A warm cozy theater after a big day of walking and sightseeing was just too much for her.

My younger siblings and my cousins seem to always be in a blur because they're always getting into something or talking or yelling or running, etc. However I took them to see the Lion King musical and they behaved so well. Their eyes were always on the stage and so were mine.

So I would definitely take your 5 year old because:
1. theater is good
2. it will be an experience that he/she will find hard to forget

I agree, take your 5 year old. I'm sure that they will love it, it's a great show! :)

Unfortunately, I did have a bad experience when I went to see it. I was with just my DH. There was a family with 3 children infront of us. One of the older boys, much older than 5, behaved very badly. He was making so much noise, and the parent's weren't doing anything about it. The show was ruined for me, honestly. I had waited so long, and spent a lot of money to see this show. I just hope that everyone is aware of how their children are acting. Manners need to be a little different at a Broadway show than say a common movie theather.

But enough of my babbling. Enjoy the show!

5 is probably the youngest age I would take to a show like "Lion King". Actually, I don't think most theaters will admit children under 5. But I've seen the show with my daughter when she was about 7 and she absolutely loved it! I think your 5 year old will enjoy it, and it is a great way to introduce a child to the wonders of the theater! Have fun!

Certainly that 5 year old kid would enjoy. No doubt about it.
