This summer, my husband and I and two sons (ages 16 and 12) want to visit Spain for 2 weeks. At this point our plans are to visit Barcelona, Bilboa (to see the new guggenheim Museum) and Madrid. I've been told that Spanish hotels only allow 3 to a room. We were hoping to fit all four in a room to save money. Does any one have suggestions about reasonably priced hotels in those cities and any nice beaches near Barcelona. Also, advise about cheap airfares from Boston would be appreciated. Rachel Lafo

I'm planning a very similar trip, with two boys ages 9 and 6, so let me know if you get any great advice, ok? I ran into the three to a room thing, we will be in Bilbao for the museum and in Barcelona, etc...Also, if you e-mail me directly with your e-mail, I will forward the one response I got on another travel message board from a woman who went to Barcelona with her kids and to a beach area nearby called Sitges.

We travel to Spain almost every year. The Spanish love children. If you stay in a chain hotel. like the Melia chain, you probably won't have a problem with 4 in a room. Also, they can provide babysitting service. Since the Spanish don't eat dinner until 10p our son was asleep by then and the babysitter had an easy time and we didn't worry about the language barrier.

Also, find out where the playgrounds are. We saw the sights in the morning, ate lunch, then one of us took a nap or shopped while the other took our son to the playground. Everyone was happy.

Cadaques is sort of near Barcelona and is a very beautiful little village. The Dali house is nearby.

Will be in Barcelona in January, 2000. What to do on 6 January (Day of Epiphany); what's open? what's available? Also want to travel to Bilbao; can we go by train? Will have 2 young adult children plus 2 parental units. Miles
