I've just read a query on the member bulletin board from Nora about biking in Europe with her two sons. We've also read about many trips that seem to be offered for singles or couples, but have had no luck finding trips for families, and wonder if she has had any luck with her response. I also wonder if two families were to get together (we also have 2 sons the same age!) and were to approach some of the organized trips if they could tailor something for families. I'd be interested in any thoughts or help in this.
Thank you.

Exitour organisation offers special interest tours in Burgundy, the very famous wine growing area in the heart of France. A combination of barging and biking....you do not need to pack and un pack....Gently rolling landscapes, plentiful waterways, wine tasting and the food is just divine! Special facilities for families: one child travelling with parents=FREE, more kids half price...

You can as well customize your tour!

Sophie:
I got information from a tour operator called Europeds -- they have several biking trips which are for families, and sounded more middle of the road in terms of expense. Hope that helps

Dear Sophie and Nora,
Thank you for your inquiry about bicycling in Europe with your children. Now that your two e- mails are posted together, perhaps you'll combine forces in planning a trip. The best resource for you both, if you want to avoid the pricey, pre-packaged bike tours, is to purchase "The Cyclists' Yellow Pages" published by the
Adventure Cycling Association,
P.O. Box 8308,
Missoula, MT 59807,
tel. 406/721-1776.
It's US$9.95 (call
800/721-8719 to order) but comes with a one year membership to the organization ($35/year) which you may want to consider. This annual directory includes cycling organizations, maps, hostels and relevant books for dozens of countries around the world, and is essential to helping you plan your trip. We always loved the bike trips organized by American Youth Hostels, but they don't do it any longer, so they referred us to this other resource. Best of luck with your planning, and let us know how your journeys go!
