There is so much said about hotels in New Orleans on other travel sites - not much about kid-friendliness. Has anyone had a good experience in NO, preferably either in French Quarter or Garden District? Kids are 7 & 12.

I suggest trying one of the family friendly bed and breakfast spots in the Garden District. I would not suggest any place in the Quarter if you have your children with you - at night the "sights" can be a bit iffy. There are some great hotels, but again the area is not the best for kids in the evening.

hello Parrish,

We have a "Deals" running now about New Orleans. I was there with my family a few weeks ago and checked out several hotels in the Arts District, a newly developed area of town about 15 minutes' walk from the French Quarter, a 15-minute trolley ride from the Garden District (the Charles Avenue line runs right through it), and right around the NO Convention Center. The Garden District does have some beautiful B&Bs, but you have to take a cab or trolley to get anywhere else and my family likes to be able to walk places.

Please read my story; there are many interesting museums in that district and because of the Convention Center, several hotels with great rates. Go the FTF homepage, and visit the Vacation Deals section, and you can learn more about the Hilton Garden Inn, where a really nice double (simple but two double beds, and spacious) was only $58/N.

I agree about the French Quarter - it's pretty raucous in the evening, unless the kids are interested in the fun, sort of spooky guide Ghost Tours. But do stay elsewhere, you parents will be more comfortable. It's really a great city, enjoy!
