Anyone have any suggestions for travelling with a 3 yr. old, 18 mo. old, and 6mo. old? Sleeping arrangements for the car? THings to keep them occupied? Places to visit between Illinois and North Carolina? ANything would be helpful--we've never done this before!

If you could have some type of car vcr/dvd player, they really come in handy for us, and plug right into the cigarette lighter. Some small and safe games for your toddler would be a good idea. We also try to drive at night, that way the kids will sleep most of the way. I know it's hard for little ones to sit in their car seats for such long periods of time, so frequent breaks at rest areas would be great for them to stretch their little legs and have some snacks, etc. Where are you going in NC? We have a place in NC and love it there! Have a fun time!

I have discovered the secret to peaceful and happy traveling with my 4 kids ages 6, 5, 3, and 1. We keep car organizers in the car now to keep the kids snacks, games, activity kits and other stuff organized and at their fingertips. I got two Kids Back Seat Organizers from http://www.familytravelgear.com and it was a life saver on my last trip. My kids had all their travel 'stuff' at hand and were able to entertain themselves for hours. When they did start to get tired of the long drive (after about 8 hours on the road), I saved the best for last, a DVD player and some new movies. We made the last 4 hours on the road with ease. It was so nice to know that after having 4 kids, I can be free to travel again. I figure if I can do it, anyone can!

Here are a few tips:
Plan to get in the car about an hour before nap or bedtime.
Hand out the toys one at a time
Plan to take a 10 minute break for every hour they are awake.
Plan to clean the car when you arrive (even if you stopped at the car wash before you packed the car).
