I am desperate for information about security problems at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground.
My family and I stayed there for our Spring Break. On Sunday, April 6, I went into the shower and there was a man in the women's restroom, watching me shower. I had been on there for about 15 minutes and he was in there the entire time. I turned around to rinse my hair and his face was no more than two feet away from mine. He had it all set up where I had to get into a shower stall on one side of him or the other.I ran out - naked in a towel- and called 911. Nobody showed up. Two women were walking by and came and sat with me. Nobody showed up. I asked the younger woman how long it had been and she said it was at least 10 minutes since they got there. I called the front desk and told them where I was and what was happening. As I hung up the phone the man walked out of the comfort station. Disney did not catch him! The 911 call went to Disney security (when you call 911 on Disney property the call goes to Disney security) and was transfered to the camprgound security. I was later told that the girl who answered the phone was "unfamiliar with the property" and the call was "routed incorrectly." Thanks to their incompetence the pervert got away. For all I know, he could have been planning on raping or murdering me.
We made the management call the Orange County Sheriff's Department so we do have a police report on record. If we hadn't - there would be no official record of the incident. Disney says they cannot release their report to me.
Two days later another camper went into the same bathhouse and the shower stalldoor where the man had been was locked. She called security twice and nobody evern came. Her sister ended up climbing over the stall and unlocking it herself over an hour later.
How can I find out if this has happened before at the Disney Campground? Maybe if victims can get together we can catch these guys.
I am completely sickened by this. It has made me a sahking, nervous wreck, even now that we're home. Please feel free to e-mail me with any info. I am trying to find some peace of mind with all of this.
I have all of the details written down.

Just wanted to send a little update.
A friend of mine called in to a national television show and told the producer about what had happened to me at Fort Wilderness. The producers have been calling, wanting me to come on the show. Seeing that Disney doesn't seem to care about what happened and how it's affected my life and that I have no confidentiality agreement with them it might be an interesting option to get the word out. AND may be a way for me to get information about the man, since I was told by a Disney employee that it had happened more than once and that they caught him. They refuse to give me any information and are keeping me from being able to press charges.

Nancy,
I am just reading both of you posts and I want to encourage you to do the show. It is irresponsible for Disney to have mishandled the situation and they are continuing to be irresponsible for not providing security at Fort Wildernes.

I found you post because I was looking for information on staying at Fort Wildernes. I have two teenage daughters and two young daughters. Thanks to your post, we won't be staying there.

I appreciate your time in putting this message out to save families like mine the same intrusion.

Good luck!

Judy from Mobile

We stayed there Dec. 2002. While eating at our campsite, a man cam up to us and demanded food. Of course we said no. He cussed out our family and left. We called security and they never even came buy. Later that night, we found out that he was a homeless and very mentally affected person. He was actually living in the campground!! He had made some chairs into a house at the beach. When you left your site, he came by and helped himself to your leftovers. After calling security again, the disney security and the Sheriff's office had about a 2 hour standoff with him. He even tried to attack them. This guy was living in the campground while many children play freely. I am not planning to stay there again!!

Can you please e-mail me?
I am very interested in your story.
Did you get a police report?
When we were there one of the security women said that vagrants sometimes use the comfort stations to shower. I told a manager that she said this and she manager denied it.
I would love to get in toich with you.
Please get back with me.
Thanks.
