As Airports Around The Country Get In Step With ‘Zero Tolerance,’ World’s Third Busiest Airport Goes Even Further With Extra Security Measures And Rocking Chairs For Weary Passengers
DALLAS, TX -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 11/19/2001 -- Many of the estimated 4.6 million people who will travel by air this Thanksgiving will be flying for the first time since September 11. Most may not be familiar with how security at air-ports has changed.
As a result, DFW Airport has launched its largest holiday travel initiative in its history in an effort to verse travelers on new Airport security measures since Sept 11th and respond to the needs of thousands of guests coming to the Airport for the first time since the terrorist attacks. More than one million passengers are expected to pass through DFW this first holiday travel week.
While Congress grapples with aviation security legislation, DFW Airport has been at the fore-front of airport security reform by adopting zero tolerance policies and taking more security measures above and beyond the FAA measures and more measures than any other airport in the country. Pro-active security steps include spending $5 million in additional security since September 11th and sealing over 150 airline employee doors to make sure all airline/airport employees undergo vigorous passenger screening.
Additional steps to make travel more comfortable and convenient can also be found through-out the airport. During the Thanksgiving Travel period, DFW Airport will have more than 200 volun-teers dressed in "Holiday Helper" T-shirts to assist the needs of travelers while new rocking chairs will be found throughout the airport for relaxation.
A real time "Holiday Resource Guide" available at dfwairport.com will provide frequent travel updates and also inform all travelers on new security mandates, updated parking conditions and new amenities available at the Airport.
