The Federal Aviation Administration has announced the hiring of additional security employees to supplement security forces in the nation's airports. The new employees will provide oversight and support at screening checkpoints, assist screeners and supervisors as necessary, and ensure that security is being performed correctly. Also, the FAA has expanded the use of its computerized passenger screening system to include those who don't check baggage, as well as those who do. Travelers can be assured that this behind-the-scenes monitoring system has been upgraded in response to the events of Sept. 11.
