My husband is one who loves the outdoors and I'm one who likes being pampered, so the last time he talked me into camping with him we encounted numerous snakes and spiders. I had no clue if they were posionous or not. Luckily, we were never bit, but it made me think, "what if something did happen?" So, I went online and recently discovered www.merckhomeedition.com. The site covers an entire section on poisonous bites and stings. Apparently it's the online version of The Merck Manual of Medical Information - Home Edition. I found the site to be very helpful and will refer to it when my husband drags us on our next camping trip. I thought some of you mind find it useful as well.

A friend that goes toour church was bit by two posionous spiders. We live in Dallas Texas. The bites happen out in a corn field at a warehouse in a small town of Italy,Texas. One of t he sppiders had red on it, which was a black widow. The second spider looked like a small tarantula with two yellow stripes going down its back. We have found out that that spider was an african recluse. At least that was what he was told. as to how it got to where it was, he doesn't know. I'm trying to find out about this tarantula. Can any one help me.? The person that was bit was 89%toxic in his system. he waited from Monday to Thursday before going to the doctor. He now knows better.

I live in Connecticut! I went Hiking today and saw this snake that was different than any Snake I have ever seen before in Connecticut. If I tell you what I saw maybe you can tell me what kind of Snake it is.
The Snake was White, about 8 inches long, with Black Diamonds along each side of it. I got close to it, and the snake lifted it's Head about 4 inches of the ground as if it was going to snap at me. It also got it's radler going. I was sure that if I got any closer it would have bitten me. So, I backed off and let the Snake go after geting a good look at it.
Sincerely,
Dave B.

Dave;
I too, live in Connecticut. It sounds to me that you stumbled upon a local timber rattler. They don't get much bigger than the one you describe and they are pretty dangerous. You were smart to stay clear.
The only other poisonous snake in Connecticut is the copperhead. I found a pair of them in my shed just last week.

While remodeling a home in North Haven Con necticut we came across a spider. It was mostly brown. We noticed on its belly was a black spot with two white dots. Could you please identify this spider and maybe e-mail a picture so that I can be sure. Thank you.
