Being personally affected by the distant parent thing, I enjoyed reading the tips for unaccompanied Minors. I have been at odds with my ex husband for 4 years about this- I live in Alaska, he in Florida- a very long way for a little one to go alone. My suggestion is this- couldn't you add a place on your site for parents to search for other kids traveling alone so they could go together? I for one, would feel at least a little better if my daughter had another child with which to sit. this would enable parents to contact one another beforehand too, and find out something about the other child- as opposed to just finding another kid on the plane. What do you think? also, do you know of an existing reference source such as what I'm suggesting? Thank you.

Hi Vanessa,
We've been tossing around your idea, and we're not sure whether it would be "safe" to have such information available on the Internet, which is such an anonymous source. I'm glad you found the article on unaccompanied Minors useful; if you have any advice that you would like to share with other parents on the subject, please email us so that we may include it in a future newsletter or on www.familytravelforum.com.
Re: your idea of a resource, if we can think of a way to act as that for other families, we would, but there's no way to know that the people who might call us or email us would be legit parents, as opposed to pedophiles, etc. I will do some research wtih the FAA and see if they know of any such clearinghouse for air companions. We'll be back in touch.

Hmm. That must be the naivete in me! The thought of someone not quite legit had not crossed my mind. Thank you so much for your response, and for thinking
about the reference part. I really appreciate your time. Meanwhile, I'll be purchasing an extra ticket and accompanying my daughter myself. Thanks again and
if I find anything, I'll let you know also!

I am looking for any articles on the negativity of allowing children travel alone on airlines. My ex wants to let my 5 and 7 year old boys travel alone, and I do not feel comfortable at all. HELP!

I'VE JUST FOUND SOME OF YOUR MESSAGES. I SHARE THIS PROBLEM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC. MY CHILD'S DAD LIVES IN IRELAND, ME WITH CHILD IN ENGLAND.I'VE NOT YET ALLOWED MY 6 YR. OLD TO TRAVEL UNACCOMPANIED BUT ITS A SUBJECT THAT MY EX IS PRESSING FOR.I'D LIKE TO CONTACT PARENTS IN SAME SITUATION TO SHARE THE ACCOMPANYING BUT THE WORRY ABOUT PAEDOPHILES IS OBVIOUSLY LEGIT. IS THERE A SAFE ANSWER. PLEASE POST IT IF YOU FIN ONE. GOOD LUCK.

Me and my cousins plan to travel to Philippines next next summer. The problem is, we are minors. My two other cousins would be older than me but not that much. I heard somewhere that the person who needs to pick us up from the airport need some identification papers. What does that person need to have? And someone else might travel with us. What kinds of stuff do they (parents) have to do like documents that says that someone would be able to go with us kids, even if that person is a relative?

Hi! My name is Nicolas. I'm planning a trip next summer (June 1st, 2003 thru July 1sr, 2003)to England. My family is from England, and this will be my first time traveling alone. I was just wondering, if minors are aloud to travel alone, or do they need an adult? I've tried e-mailing all the airline companys, but I still have not a reply. I e-mailed them in January of 2002, and it is now September. If anyone has any info, or is planning a trip the same days as I please contact me at NLnAB06@aol.com. Thank you so much. -Nicolas

Hey I don't know how old you are but I am 19 years old. I am going to England in August. I don't have the dates yet as I was suppose to go next month but ya know the war is going on and I need a job to get some extra cash. If you wanna IM me or email me back about England that would be smashing.
I love England so much. Been there 3 times going for a 4th.
