Hello, I live in the Vancouver Canada area, and would like to connect with other single parents who may be planning spring/summer vacations. I have a 4 year old son, and would prefer hearing from M/F single parents with similarly aged child/children.

Am finding it difficult to find accomodations on the net that don't include free children ONLY w/"2 adult" or "double occupancy" rates...So am trying to get around this obstacle by perhaps travelling with another single parent!

In this way, we could also perhaps combine/swap child-care, as "down-time" has proven impossible for me when vacationing alone with my youngster.

Am interested in vacations to:
Mexico
Caribbean
Hawaii
Florida

Recently returned from LA/Disneyland/Magic Mountain with this small boy of mine, and now am in desperate NEED OF ANOTHER VACATION!!!

Look forward to hearing from you!

I've got a thousand of them. Vacation ideas that is. Two older boys however. First off consider a relative/close friend you like as your traveling companion. This way there are no surprises. Don't think the friend who accompanies you has to have a child the same age. Perhaps the traveling companions child is much older. This could be to your advantage.

Consider a teen who likes to baby sit and is a proven trustworthy youth. The parent and youth may not mind taking the child from you while you get some downtime. That said here is a small list of things to do with your little one and single parent companion.

Hit The Beaches
Boat rides, dolphins, whales, Aquiriums, museum activity centers, sand castles or just being chased by the waves, crabs and sea gulls are enough to keep a kid happy for hours

Seaonal Festivals
Bar-b-que, rides, cotton candy, more rides, puppets, stories, more rides. Horse and buggy, apple cider, sticky buns... you get the picture.

Escapades on a Disney Cruise Ship
Lion King - Beauty and the Beast - Jungle Book
Shows and activities just for the little one.

Hope this helps

Hi, I have two boys ages 2 and 8 years old. I run into the same obstacles about the double occupancy room rate. Have been lucky enough to find a friend here or there with kids to go away with and splitting the costs have been great (we just did a three day to Baltimore TOTAL (everything) cost including lots of sights and "down time" for each was about $300!

I also did a trip to Niagra Falls, Canada, we did the train and that saved on much stress

Milena, if you could tell me more, I'd be happy to take a look at your specific situation and make recommendations. I write a travel column in The Washington Post (in the States) and also have a Website www.relationtrips.com.

I live in Holland and have 2 children 6 and 4 and have had a hard time finding sites for children and 1 parent. I'm close to booking a trip with club med to one of the more family friendly resorts. Its not cheap but I think all three of us need some sunshine. If you can believe the club med links it sound like they have a decent setup for kids. If you find anything it North America let me know
