One of the most interesting travel offerings I've seen lately, one perfect for "horsey families," is one offered in northern Mexico by a transplanted United-Statesian, and described at EarthFoot's Free Ecotour Posterboard at www.earthfoot.org.
At this site, at the "clickable world map," click on the North America section, then go to Mexico, and you'll see it.
Riding takes place in the high-elevation desert, and judging from the pictures the landscape couldn't be prettier and more perfect for trail riding. The riding host seems to be a poetic character who just loves horses and Mexico. At least one person told me that the experience was really worth the effort, something "exotic and beautiful."
