Would like to hear from anyone who has taken a bus from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido. Would you recommend the trip with kids?

yes, I know that this is probably to late but I recommend against that trip. My family has bussed some in Mexico (coast to coast) and loved it. But, that trip was the worst nightmare I have ever had. I held our 2 year old while she vomited all over me for the last four hours of the ride while my wife held our four year old while she did the same thing. It is steep, swervy, stop and go. I would love to hear if you decided to take that trip. Jerry

Hi, this is the FTF editor. We were trying to get to Zihua from Oaxaca and met a family who three years running had bussed from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido and swore they would never do such a swervy, hilly journey again with their two kids. They flew. We flew to Acapulco (to save time on a 10-day trip) and then took a 6-hour bus to Zihua from there, and it was just great. Blood n'gore videos played the whole time, stuff I would never want my 5-year-old son to see otherwise, but with the Spanish subtitles and lots of Sylvester Stallone biceps he loved it. Begged us to take him on another Mexican bus. They are generally very clean, air-conditioned and reliable, make nice stops at very interesting terminals in the oddest towns, buses are filled with families, as long as you book 'Primera Classe'. Still very cheap. Go for it if you haven't tried it. It's only a possible nightmare that will make a great cross-cultural travel tale.
