In turns out as of November and December 2002 the 6 month quarantine ban has been lifted as long as you follow Britains Pet Travel Scheme(PETS).

Did you get an answer to your question? We are being transferred to London suddenly and we have a new puppy.

If you have any info, I would appreciate it. Good luck on your move.

THe quarantine HAS NOT BEEN LIFTED. DEFRA (UK dept that handles quarantine among other things) will be making an announcement in september as to whether the US will be included in their PETS Travel Scheme. Even so, your animal must go thru a 6 month process before it can arrive in the UK without facing quarantine. Its not likely that the program will be instituted until early 2003.

check out this website. It also has links to the UK site that describes the PETS Travel Scheme.

i have just landed in spain to sit out the 6 month limit from the usa even though my dog came with me from the uk, she has had all her shots and bloodtests but still has to wait
there are ways around it though and i will be trying to go home with my dog very soon, as long as she doesn not touch uk soil they can only send you back
does anybody no of any ideas, can a dog go straight to mainland uk from jersey etc

I'm returning to UK in 6 weeks time from USA. Have a dog i want to take but not putting him thro' quarentine. Looking into pet fostering in Europe or US while waiting to see what happens about the quarentine being lifted. But it will still mean 6 months from then as blood titres are needed etc.,
So if anyone has info on pet fostering in Europe or us i would love to know and Emma will be interested to know how you get on in Spain.

I'm traveling to Scotland in January and I'm also interested in a foster home for my cat in Europe as I have 4 months to wait until the 6 month period is over for the blood results. The USA has not yet created the PETS certificates (according to Defra) so until they do, we can't get one issued - plus I have to wait 5 more months.

Does anybody know about any long term kennels in Europe or dog fostering as an alternative to quarantine in the UK? I am in a non-PETS qualifying country and have read about these alternatives but would like to hear about people's experiences before commiting to anything.
Thank you!
